If there are more than 60 applicants, after the admission of any children with an Education, Health and Care Plan which names this school, places will be allocated according to the criteria set out below. These are stated in order of priority:
1. Looked after children or previously looked after children, including children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. Children with an exceptional and professionally supported medical or social need for a place at this school.
3. Children of a member of staff.
4. Children who will have brothers and/or sisters, living at the same address, in the school at the date of admission.
5. Any other applicant.
At North Downs we invite all the pupils who will be starting in a particular academic year to attend school from the beginning of September. Pupils whose fifth birthday falls between 1st September and 31st August will attend full time, however, full time attendance at school is not statutory until after the child is five.
New children, and their parents, are invited to visit the school and spend a morning/afternoon in school during the first week of term. We offer parents the opportunity of a home visit by a Reception Class Teacher. These visits enable pupils and staff to get to know each other in familiar surroundings. Reception pupils have a phased start to the academic year to aid the settling process.
Our Prospective Parent Open Days are held after the October Half Term.
