Book Club Report

Ten of our innovative Year 6 girls have started their own Book Club! Their mums were all in a Book Club and between them they decided to organise a junior version.

Alice, Maddie, Karina, Evie, Eleana, Josie, Isabelle, Ophelia, Erinn and Lily, met for the first time about six months ago, at Alice’s house, to discuss ‘Gangsta Granny’ by David Walliams. Each member received a little invitation to come along and was given the book title in advance.

Let the girls tell you about this brilliant idea.

‘At the initial meeting, we decided who would be the next host, it was to be Maddie, who then chose the title for her meeting. We plan to meet every 6-8 weeks and no parents sit in on our discussions. While enjoying snacks, we are trusted to talk about the book for around 45minutes, followed by some time to play. Topics for discussion include: favourite events and characters; looking at changing actions and even the ending! Alice even ran a quiz at the first meeting. ‘

Keen to read a variety of genre texts so far have included: ‘Candy Floss’, ‘Warning Cry’ and ‘Dork Diaries Party Time’.

Enthusiastic readers, they love their special Book Club.

Well done, girls!
