Learning Outside the Classroom
At North Downs Primary, we believe that all children have the right to experience the unique and special nature of being outdoors. We further believe that it is important to enable children to use the outside environment as a context for learning.
We are very fortunate to have such lovely school grounds situated in beautiful villages so we have placed a huge emphasis on learning outside the classroom. To that end we have just been awarded the National Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Mark (Bronze). Research shows that children learn best through real life experiences. Taking learning beyond the classroom walls makes learning more memorable and appeals to different learning styles. We're thrilled to get official recognition for our efforts and we look forward to building on this award to integrate LOtC into the everyday life of the school.
