Reading Tips

At North Downs School we realise the importance of developing a love of reading.

There is now year banded guidance to give some tips for all ages of EYFS and Primary school life.  Please see attachments below.

Of course there are so many general ideas to encourage reading.

  • Get caught reading-let your child see you taking time to read

  • Share reading; ask, chat and encourage the discussion of the written word

  • Join the Local library

  • Allow repetition of favourites

  • Encourage peer and sibling reading

  • Consider DEAR-Drop Everything and Read at home!
