Writing

We follow a writing programme based upon Pie Corbett’s, ‘Talk for Writing’ - Imitate, Innovate and Initiate. This ethos highlights aiming at improving composition, which takes a few weeks to embed.

Starting each unit with an independent piece of writing ‘Cold Task’ assessed against the NDPS Writing grids – teachers choose three key areas to focus for each child, highlighting in blue and working on this through the three weeks planning.

The writing works through all the expected genres throughout the year. Using the Writing Expectations to guide the planning and outcomes.

At the end of the final week the children do another unaided piece of writing ‘Hot Task’, which is again marked against the grid, ticking all areas present and special focus on the three original targets.

Expectations are that writing standards should be maintained across the curriculum.
